Barbara Jean (Matthews) Tardy entered eternal rest surrounded by the love she poured out so generously throughout her life. A woman of grace, dignity, unwavering faith, and quiet strength, she left a lasting, beautiful impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on February 9, 1943, to the union of Albertha Johnson and Lawless Matthews, Barbara was raised in the community of Four Corners, Louisiana, and attended St. Mary Parish schools. Baptized at an early age, she lived a life rooted in devotion and later became a dedicated member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
Barbara was united in holy matrimony to Leonard Tardy, Sr., and together they built a loving home blessed with five children. She wore many titles with pride: devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend. Her commitment to her community shone brightly through her active membership in the Ladies of Independence Civil & Social Club and the Golden Girls, where she shared in fellowship, service, and sisterhood.
She worked hard throughout her life, holding jobs at Glencoe Bar, Jeanerette Mills, and Legacy Nursing & Rehabilitation of Franklin, giving her best until the time of her retirement. In her well-deserved retirement, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including frequently taking a trip to the casino, where she loved trying her luck to see if she could leave a little richer than she arrived but mostly just enjoying the excitement, and making cherished memories.
Barbara’s legacy will be carried forward by her surviving children: Anthony (Irma) Tardy, Wanda Tardy, Leonard (Pamela) Tardy, Jr., Bryan (Selerial) Tardy.
She is also survived by her dear sister, Lottie Moore; nine grandchildren: Keisha, Brandie, Myrio, Bryan, Chantelle, Taylor, Jasmine, Jordan, and Charte; thirteen great-grandchildren: Travis Jr., Chamara, Zaiden, London, Nevaeh, Mekhi, Samaj, Malik, Bryan Jr., Asher, Marlei, A’Zyla, and Bry’li; one great-great-grandchild, Elijah; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Leonard Tardy, Sr.; her parents, Albertha and Lawless Matthews; her daughter, Amanda Tardy; her sister, Gloria Broussard; her brother, John Londow; one grandson, Jeremy Henry; two nephews, Ronald Moore, Sr. and Cecil Broussard; alongside other beloved family members who welcomed her home.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes peace and comfort in knowing that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
