Funeral Services for Betty Edmond, 66, will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, 1:00 PM, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She will be buried in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Godfrey will officiate the service.

Viewing will be Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Sis. Betty Jean Lumpkin Edmond was born on Sept 8, 1949 in Georgetown, La., to the late Sarah Stevenson Lumpkin and Samuel Lumpkin. She was the fifth of fourteen children. Betty attended St. Mary Parish Schools. She married Carroll Paul Edmond. On Friday, September 25, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. she was called by God to her eternal resting place.

She was baptized at an early age at St. John Baptist Church of Charenton, La by the late Rev. Wilbur Castle. Later in life she became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Johnny Carr, Jr. She loved and respected, Rev. Paul Godfrey, and often referred to him as "my pastor." She was a faithful and dedicated worker for Christ, serving on several church departments including church choir, senior and junior usher, mission, pageant and kitchen committee, the harvest rally committee and others. For many years her desire was to become homecoming queen and on August 9, 2015, she reign as Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Homecoming Queen. She was elated. Never ceasing to work in the religious vineyard, Sister Betty also became a member of the Tri-Parish Ensemble.

She leaves to cherish her memories; three daughters, Sandra Lumpkin (Oren) of Lafayette, La., Cheryl Carter of Jeanerette, La., and Carolyn Edmond of Charenton, La,; one son, Rodney Edmond of Charenton, La.; six sisters, Rev. Isabella Gasper (Irving), Trulia Randle, Barbara Perry (Charles), Ruby Jackson(Clarence) all of Charenton, La., Gloria Levine of New Iberia, La., and Shirley Stevenson of Jeanerette, La.; three brothers, Harold Stevenson, Anthony Stevenson(Felicia) and Ricky Lumpkin all of Charenton, La.; four step brothers, Chester Keal, Milton Keal, Miller Keal and Matthew Robinson; one uncle, Lawrence Stevenson of Charenton, La.; six grandchildren, Nea, Ja'Qulia, Kea, Tai'Shyra, Crystalyn and Sherry; four great-grandchildren, Jayce, Ja'Hyree, Tristen and Ma'Leah; one godchild, Brandon Stevenson; close friends, Debra Dominick, Joyce Keal, Martha Armelin, Nora Jones and Vera Armelin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Stevenson Lumpkin and Samuel Lumpkin; three sisters, Emily Hart, Orelia Lumpkin Mitchell and Joyce Lumpkin; two nephews, Marcus Jackson and Leonard Lumpkin; two nieces, Rita Hart and Aquilla Jackson Vital; and devoted friends, Irene S. Freeman and Victoria "Rita" Johnson.
