Calvin Ray "Gunner" Tate

A Celebration of Life for Calvin Ray Tate will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021, 10:00 AM at MK Dixon Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 8:00 AM until the commencement of the service at MK Dixon Funeral Home.

Calvin Ray Tate, also known as "Gunner", was born in Jeanerette, Louisiana  on December 17, 1952 to Willie and Emily Johnson Tate .  He was one of nine children born to this union.

Calvin was a member of the Iberia Parish Sheriff league and was a good baseball player and outfielder.  He was a graduate of Jeanerette High School.

Calvin was baptized at early age at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the guidance of the Rev. H.A. Hills.  He was a member of Bethlehem Church of God in Christ in Patterson, Louisiana under the guidance of his brother, Pastor Clifton C. Tate, Sr.

Calvin was a dedicated worker. He was never late and very committed to his employers. He held a variety of positions to include Jeanerette Mills, Patout Mill and the City of Jeanerette. He was also employed at Cypress Bayou Casino and was awarded Employee of the Year.  Calvin worked each job for several years, always committed to the task.

Calvin's devoted companion, Ms. Mabel Williams loved him and was at his side many days.  His brother Roy Allen Tate was a real soldier and saw to Calvin's care every day and every night.  Calvin was a private person and had confidence in his older brother, Clifton C. Tate, Sr.  His family never left his side, Calvin was never alone.   He loved his family and relied on them.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert Tate, and two sisters, Shirley Ann and Willie Mae Tate Smith.  He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted companion, Mabel Williams, two brothers, Clifton Tate, Sr. (Janice) and Roy Allen Tate, three sisters, Marian Drexler, Barbara Alexander, and Gail Tate Clark (Willie) , two devoted friends, George Bobb III and Charles Lee Edwards, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
