A Celebration of Life for Charles Grogan, Sr. will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at New Salem Baptist Church in Patterson, LA.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until the commencement of the celebration at New Salem Baptist Church in Patterson, LA.
Charles will be interred at New Salem Cemetery in Patterson, LA.
Charles Louis Grogan, Sr. was born on August 8, 1950, to the late Saul and Loretta Triggs Grogan. Charles who was also known as "Greer" by many, accepted Christ into his life at an early age and was baptized at New Salem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor James Otis.
Charles attended Hattie Watts and Patterson High School in Patterson, LA. Post high school, he began working at J. Ray McDermott as a pipe fitter, where he remained until retirement.
Charles was an avid sports fan, especially in the stands at Patterson High School watching football and basketball. He was also a die-hard DALLAS COWBOYS fan; he loved his cowboys win or lose. Charles loved playing softball with the Patterson family players, Dollar Bills, & Patterson Baseball team.
Charles received his heavenly crown on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Ochsner St. Mary in Morgan City, LA, surrounded by his family.
On January 31, 1976, Charles married his high school sweetheart Sally Taylor Grogan, and to this union two children were born, Chelsea Shaunee' Grogan and Charles Louis Grogan Jr. (Ka'Sian), both of Patterson, LA, another daughter Cheri Williams Dupaty (Shawn), of Napoleonville, LA and an adopted son, Dion(Chantel) Cage of Baton Rouge, LA; a godchild, Antoine C. Todd of Patterson, LA; grandchildren, Taylan, Braydan, Kaleb, Cale, and Charlie. Memories of Charles, will forever remain in the hearts of his nine brothers, Saul (Brenda) Grogan Jr, Earl (Caroline) Grogan, Wallace Grogan, Timothy Grogan, Paul Grogan, Garrett (Kathleen) Grogan, Joseph Grogan, Marvin Grogan, Saul (Ebony) Grogan III; five sisters, Brunetta (CC) Stewart, Loretta (James) Duchan, Edna Riles, Betty Christopher, and Melissa Grogan; one aunt, Rosa Renthrope; two brothers- in-law, Lionel (Pearla) Williams of Antioch, CA, Michael (Claudia) Taylor of Patterson, LA; two sisters-in-law, Leah (Oscar) Gatson of La Marque, TX, and Regina Taylor of Patterson, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents; brothers, Edward J. Grogan and Clarence L. Grogan; nephew, Jermaine Riles; godchild, Malaysia N. Ruffin; mother-in-law, Gertrude Taylor-Williams; father-in-law, Sanders Oliver; sister-in-law, Geraldine Johnson; brother-in-law, Mitchell Williams.
