Conrell Collins Sr. was born on December 6, 1926, to the union of the late Richard Sr. and Virginia Baptiste Collins in Charenton, Louisiana. Conrell, who responded lovingly to many names by those who knew him well, Dad, Pop, Papa Boo, and Mr. Collins.
Conrell was a quiet, thoughtful, hardworking, loving, organized, family man who loved the Lord. He started his mornings with prayer and meditation and ended his day with prayer. Sunday morning church service with the family was a must, with his same favorite seating for over 70 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member, a member of the United Methodist Men, and a working member of any organization where he was needed until the decline of his health. That is a Legacy to follow.
Conrell was educated in the Negro elementary school in Charenton, Louisiana, until he entered the United States Army as a truck driver on May 8, 1945. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army on December 1, 1946, he enrolled in Trades, Inc. Vocational Schools and completed the course as an Automotive and Tractor Mechanic in Franklin, LA. Although, he did not find employment in this field of study, he found a job that he loved with A.V. Allain & Sons Farm in Adeline, Louisiana where he worked for over 60 years as a Tractor Driver and often in the shop doing repairs. Conrell modeled the value of education, great work ethics, a good name, good credit, savings, home ownership, and the importance of finding purpose and goals in life, as well as accomplishing the goals. That is a Legacy to follow.
Conrell was married to Eliza Patrick Collins, his Queen for 70 years, until her demise. They were the proud parents of fourteen children. Family Fun Day and activities were mandatory. Conrell found time for his favorite baseball team, The LA Dodgers, and had the most fun watching Wrestling shows, the Wheel of Fortune, and Western shows. He spent his retirement time following the lives of those on the Bold and Beautiful and All My Children. He found peace and pride in growing gardens. His message was to take time for interests and hobbies outside of work. That is a Legacy to follow.
Conrell leaves behind to carry on his legacy, twelve children, Virginia "Ginny" Collins (Breaux Bridge, LA), Gerald (Marie) Collins (St. Martinville, LA); Conrell Jr. (Patricia) Collins (Franklin, LA), Iris (John Jr.) Tillman (Baldwin, LA); Cecil (Viline) Collins (Houston,Tx); Sherry Ann Madison (Rayne, LA), Sharon Gert (Lonzie) Johnson (Houston,TX); Kenneth Collins (Baldwin, LA; Jennifer (Dean) Lanceslin (Baldwin, LA); David (Tameka) Collins (Houston, TX), Darrell (Cheryl Ann)Collins (Franklin, LA); and Renelle (Anthony) Freeman(Houston, TX), one brother in law, Edward Jr. (Olivia Sue) Patrick (Four Corners, LA); sister-in-law, Barbara L.
