Constance "Connie" Simmons

August 1, 1953 — March 15, 2018

Jeanerette

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Constance "Connie" Marie Simmons on Friday, March 23, 2018, 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Jeanerette, LA. Fr. Joseph Nguyen, SVD will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be Friday March 23, 2018, from 8:00 AM until the commencement of the mass with the rosary being prayed at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.

Constance "Connie" Marie Simmons was born on August 1, 1953, the eldest child of Rev. John Simmons Sr. and Delta Mae Jean Baptiste Simmons.

Constance took great pride in her family, and in her position as the eldest child of 11 children. She enjoyed taking family trips and organizing dinners for holiday meals.  She brought a lot of joy to her family as she was a great role model, a leader and a diligent student in the church and in the classroom.

After graduating from Jeanerette High School in 1971, she attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  She held various positions in education including teaching at a local business school and within the Iberia Parish School District.  She spent most of her years as an educator teaching high school students at Loreauville High School in Loreauville, Louisiana.   While there she became very active in the school and in the community; spending much of her personal time coordinating and planning school fundraisers, proms, yearbooks, and many other school projects.

Constance was a devout Catholic who loved God and loved to serve her church, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.  For years she was an active member of many church groups and committees. Her greatest commitment to the church was the time she spent working as the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) coordinator.  She was a natural leader who used her talents as a delegator to encourage others to volunteer and help with many of the church projects and activities she planned.

Constance passed away on March 15, 2018 after a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis.  Although she suffered in her illness, she rarely if ever complained.  For as long as she was able to do so, she faithfully kept in touch with friends and family by making phone calls or sending greeting cards. She enjoyed long conversations filled with lots of laughter and love.

Constance leaves to cherish her lasting memories, ten siblings, Minister John Simmons Jr, Anthony (Daphne) Simmons, David Simmons, Joseph (Sherry) Simmons, Bessie Simmons, Gail Simmons, Elaine (Alvin) Colbert, Andrew Simmons, Junious (Valecia "Lisa") Simmons, Christine (Whitney) Dabney; two Aunts, Mae Willow Jean Baptiste and Mary Lessie Jean Baptiste King Perro; one Uncle/Godfather, Gerald Joseph Jean Baptiste (Gloria); two Great-Aunts, Eva Bell Jean Baptiste and Emily Jean Baptiste; six nieces and nephews, Anthony II "Jarred", Jarrard, Nicole, Christopher, Mya, and Isaiah; one Godchild, Lee Esther Polidore, and a host of loving cousins, other close relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. John Simmons Sr. and Delta Mae Simmons, and her sister in law, Rita Simmons.
