Jeanerette-A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Delta Mae JeanBaptiste Simmons, 86, on Thursday, January 4, 2018, 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Jeanerette, LA Interment will follow at Beau Pre Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 8 AM until the commencement of the funeral service with the rosary being prayed at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.
Delta Mae JeanBaptiste Simmons shared her faith, love, talents and wisdom with all those whom God sent her way. She was born the eldest child of Eurick and Florence JeanBaptiste on July 3, 1931 in Cade, Louisiana. Delta learned from her parents how to trust and believe in God for all things.
She was baptized at St. Martin DeTours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, LA and received the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Jeanerette, LA.
A lifelong member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, where she married her husband and lifelong friend. John Simmons. She loved the Lord as she supported and cared for her husband, Rev. John Simmons, Sr. As a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Jeanerette, LA she served her church varying capacities;
The Legion of Mary, Knights of St. ,Peter Claver Ladies' Auxillary, Altar Society, Parish Council, Finance Committee and the Church Choir. Mrs. Delta loved to sing, as she was a lifelong member of the church choir. Her beautiful soprano voice rendered messages of love forgiveness, hope and service as her favorite songs were, "Ave Maria", "Give Me A Clean Heart" and "If I Can Help Somebody."
Delta established and maintained a close loving family bond . This love came forth in the aroma of her good cooking and baking, the singing of her favorite songs, organizing and planning of her baked good sales at home, church and selecting her menu for "The Old Fashioned Kitchen".
Mrs. Simmons has helped as best as she could, in her own special way, in spite of obstacles and hardships, she has sung in her strongest and weakest voice and her living is not in vain.
On December 28, 2017, Mrs. Simmons peacefully passed away in her home, surrounded by her family. Delta Mae JeanBaptiste Simmons leaves to cherish her memory, her eleven children:
Constance "Connie" Simmons, Minister John, Jr. (Rita) Simmons, Anthony (Daphne) Simmons, David Simmons, Joseph (Sherry) Simmons, Bessie Simmons, Gail Simmons, Elaine (Alvin) Colbert; Andrew Simmons, Junious (Valecia "Lisa") Simmons, Christine (Whitney) Dabney.
Three siblings: Mae Willow JeanBaptiste, Mary Lessie JeanBaptiste King Perro, Gerald Joseph JeanBaptiste and his wife Gloria;
Two Aunts: Eva Bell JeanBaptiste and Emily JeanBaptiste
Six grandchildren: Anthony II "Jarred", Jarrard, Nicole, Christopher, Mya, Isaiah
A host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Eurick and Florence JeanBaptiste, her husband; Rev. John Simmons, Sr.
