Eugene “Russell” Williams

A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Eugene Williams will be celebrated Saturday, October 3, 2026, 10:30 AM, St. Rose of Lima, Cecilia, LA

Visitation will be Saturday, October 3, 2026, 7:00 AM - 9:30 AM at Kinchen Funeral Home, 1011 N St Antoine Street, Lafayette, LA 70501.

He will be interred in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Cemetery.

Eugene Williams, affectionately known as “Russell,” was born on March 23, 1949, to the late Edith Solomon and Perum Williams in Lafayette, La. Russell shared 55 years of marriage, and five children with his wife Dorothy Calais Williams. He entered eternal rest on September 28, 2026.

Russell was a hardworking man who believed in providing for his family and taking pride in his work. He spent six years working offshore while also working at Cecilia Lumber Yard when he was home from work. He later worked for many years as a carpenter, using his hands and his talents to build, repair, and provide for the people he loved. His strong work ethic was a reflection of the man he was -dependable, humble, and always willing to do what needed to be done.

Although Eugene worked hard, he found his greatest joy in the simple things in life. He was a true homebody who was happiest right at home, surrounded by the people he loved. He didn’t need to travel or go far to enjoy life. Some of his favorite moments were spent sitting outside with his beloved wife each day, enjoying the fresh air, sharing conversation, and simply being together. Those quiet moments were treasures that reflected what mattered most to him.

Russell had a special love for his grandchildren. He enjoyed being around kids and had a way of making them feel welcomed and loved. His gentle spirit, playful personality, and infectious sense of humor made him someone people naturally wanted to be around. He was known for his little phrases and sayings he would often repeat-words that became part of who he was and that could bring a smile or a laugh even in the simplest moments. His familiar “thank you” and the way he said the things he loved to say became memories that his family and friends will carry with them forever. Those little expressions may have seemed ordinary, but coming from Russell, they were uniquely his and could brighten a room.

Left to cherish Russell’s memories are his two daughters, Peggy Williams of Eldorado, Ar. and Shameka (Damien) Lewis of Baldwin, La; three sons, Lee Perry Williams and Terry Williams of Cecilia, La., and Travis (Jacquelyn) Williams of Baton Rouge; nine grandchildren, Keithan (KaNeisha) Williams, Traylen Williams, Brydon Williams, Keilon Candley, Korie Williams, Jailey Lewis, Jayden Lewis, Chase Williams, and Ryleigh Williams; brothers Lester (Jean) Fontenette of Cecilia, La.; Calvin Paul (Savannah) Williams, Francis (Deborah) Williams, and Evan Williams of Breaux Bridge, La. and Albert (Eva) Williams of Houston, Tx.

He is also survived by a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edith Solomon and Perum Williams; his wife Dorothy Calais Williams,; his brothers Joseph RC Williams, John (Yie) Williams, Gilvan Williams, and Leroy Williams, and sisters Amy Lou Gordon and Theresa Batiste, and his in-laws Louanna and Arthur Calais.
