Evelyn Chapman, was born December 10, 1938, in Franklin, Louisiana, to the late Ivory Johnson and Mary Lee Tate. She married the love of her life Clarence Chapman Sr. and they shared 57 years of love and happiness. To this union six daughters and one son were born; Cherilyn (Gerald) Thomas, Barbara Chapman, Tammy Benjamin (Sanford) all of Patterson, LA, Cathy (Ernest) Dejean of New Iberia, LA, Mary (Nathaniel) Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA, the late Katina Chapman and Clarence Chapman Jr.
It is known that our Lord God never makes mistakes and in His infinite wisdom deemed it timely on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, to call his precious daughter to eternal rest. Evelyn's departure leaves a deep and personal loss to all who loved her and who were blessed to share precious moments in her life. Although she will be sorely missed, there is peace in knowing that we can confidently say to be absent from the body is to be present with our Lord.
Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, a beloved sister and a special friend. She was a guiding light to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by her children: Cherilyn (Gerald) Thomas, Barbara Chapman, Tammy Benjamin (Sanford), Cathy (Ernest) Dejean Mary (Nathaniel) Wilson; sister: Lucille Johnson Conley; brother: Wardell (Louise) Johnson;15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Barbara (Harold) Granger, Lucy Faye Thomas, Vera (Lionel Singleton, and Carolyn Edwards; devoted friends: Josie Carmouche, Jessi Rogers, Patricia Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ivory Johnson and Mary Lee Tate; her husband: Clarence Chapman Sr., son: Clarence Chapman Jr.; daughter: Katina Chapman, brother: Holden Johnson; sister: Therese Henry; two brothers-in law; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
