A Celebration of Life for Gregory Burrell, Sr. will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, 11:00 AM at MK Dixon Funeral Home in Baldwin, LA.
The family has requested that visitation be observed on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the commencement of the celebration at MK Dixon Funeral Home in Baldwin, LA
Gregory Charles Burrell, Sr. was born on February 19, 1952, in Franklin, Louisiana. He was the third child of seven and the second son born to the late James Lee Burrell, Sr. and the late Marian Barnes Burrell. He peacefully drifted off to sleep at his residence in Lawton, Oklahoma on March 27, 2026.
From a young age, Gregg (as he was fondly called) cultivated a love for sports; particularly hunting and fishing. He found joy in the little things in life and was always willing to lend a hand going above and beyond to help others. He had a kind heart and a big smile, living a life full of laughter, generosity and love. He touched the lives of many with his unwavering support, infectious positivity and deep-rooted love for others.
Greg graduated from Park Avenue High School (Franklin, Louisiana) class of 1970. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he retired honorably after 20 years of service. He later graduated from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Trevar Burrell; one brother, James Lee Burrell, Jr.; one sister, Diana Burrell Woods; four uncles, Nathaniel Barnes, Jr, James Barnes, Malcolm Barnes, Edgar Burrell, Jr.; seven aunts, Melba Isadore, Evelyn Daniels, Carolyn Cummings, Clara Bell Brown, Louise Massington, Ruth Francis, Earline Likely; one great uncle, Rev. Harry Burrell.
Gregory is survived by two children: Gregory Charles (Melodi) Burrell,II of Richmond, Texas and Gerliscia Carlise (Erwin) Wells of Manvel, Texas; five grandchildren: Joshua Charles Burrell of Richmond, Texas and Ladyn, Lennox, Landree, and Laci Garce Wells of Manvel, Texas; two brothers, Clinton Blane (Jacquelyn) Burrell of Baker, Louisiana, and Gary Paul (Phil) Burrell of Franklin, Louisiana; two sisters, Colleen (Mark) Bynum and Myra (Carlton) Brown of Baldwin, Louisiana; two aunts, Myrtle B. Williams of Berekely, California and Shirley B. Harris of Franklin, Louisiana; dedicated friends, Vanessa Armes, Victor, and Ervin (LaSherri) Manigault; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
