On July 31, 1951, in Jeanerette, LA, God blessed the late Thelma Gordon and Willie "Tut" Harris with a beautiful baby girl, they named, Gwendolyn Marie Harris.
She baptized at an early age at St. Peter United Methodist Church in Jeanerette, LA. She attended public school in Iberia Parish. After graduating from Boley High School in Jeanerette, LA, she enrolled at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA.
Gwen was united in Holy matrimony to her beloved husband, Alvin Charatin in 1999. Gwen took pride in being a hard-working mother for her children. She worked at McDermott Shipyard, Twin Brothers, and St. Mary Parish School System for numerous years. She also worked in the catering business with her cousin Carrie Mae and Beatrice "Willie B".
Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, and son -in- law, Aaron Hartman.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Phil Rideaux, Jr. (Angela), Reginald "Von" Rideaux (Niki), Vinette Rideaux-Hartman (Avery Bell, Sr.); grandchildren, Mia Rideaux, Dominic (Jasmin) Fontenot, Taylor Beadle, Aarolyn Hartman, Aarion Hartman (Tori), Reginald VonKieth Rideaux, II, Rorry R. Rideaux; great grandchildren, Kade Hartman, Hendric Fontenot; sister, Gustavia Harris; sisters- in-law, Joydell Robertson, Barbara Woods; brother- in- law, Robert Charatin; maternal cousins, Carmen Gordon, Leroy Tillman.
Gwen had a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and so many "God-sent" children. Roslin Colbert was her other daughter, whom she adored. Though there are too many to mention, you know who you are. She also had cousins who were more like sisters; Carrie Maze Armelin, Beatrice Edmond, Donna Lewis Lanceslin, Alice Randle, and Sandra Richard.
She was a blessing to all who knew her. Her genuine love, compassion, and humor were uniquely hers and she will without a doubt be greatly missed. Memories of "Gwen" as she was affectionately called, will be a lasting treasure to all who knew her.
