James Tibbs

A Celebration of Life for James Tibbs, will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 12:00 P.M. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Charenton, La.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until the commencement of the celebration at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Charenton, La.

James will be interred at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Charenton, La.

James L. Tibbs, son of Wilson Tibbs and Virgina Shields, was born on May 12, 1942, in Jeanerette La. He was the oldest of seven children and is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene.

He was a graduate of Willow Street High School in Franklin. He then went on to work for United Airlines where he later retired after 37 years.

Some James' greatest attributes were his friendly and giving nature. He could often be found socializing with friends and family, offering jokes and stories of pat good times.

His memory will live on through his two daughters; LaTonja Reed of Baldwin, La and Kenya Tibbs, of Litchfield Park, AZ; six grandchildren, Tatyana Colbert, Maurice Reed, Airiqa Zepada, Ariana Ramirez, Chaquila Carter, and Aliyya Washington; twelve great grandchildren: Amari, Darrin, Juel, James, Jayla, Kingston, Kiara, Tru, Kash, Nehemiah, Jordyn, and Ali; godchildren, Pamela Charles and David Rose; siblings, Harold Shields, Elwood Shields, Winston Shields, Raymond Shields, and Diane Simon; uncles, Joe Shields and Willie Narcisse; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
