Jesse H. Engleton, Sr.

August 18, 1944 — March 20, 2021

A Celebration of Life for Jesse H. Engleton, Sr. will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Little Zion Baptist Church, in Berwick, LA. Mask will be required.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 27, 2021, from 11:00 A.M. until the commencement of the celebration at Little Zion Baptist Church in Berwick, LA.
Jesse will be interred at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, in Jeanerette, LA.
Jesse H. Engleton Sr. was born on August 18, 1944, to the
union of James Engleton, Sr., and Rose Green Engleton in Berwick, Louisiana. Jesse departed this life and entered his eternal rest in glory on March 20, 2021 after a great fight with faith.
Spiritually, Jesse dedicated his life to the Lord at an early
age and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Berwick, Louisiana. He was a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Scholarly, Jesse graduated from Sumpter Williams High School, where he created
friendships, which lasted throughout his lifetime. Professionally, he worked in
management for Lumber Yards across Louisiana, then became a truck driver for
30+ years which was his passion and retired from Morgan City Rentals.
Jesse was definitely a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family
and friends. His hobbies included cooking for the family, going on vacations, driving trucks, and most of all- fishing!
Memories of Jesse Engleton Sr., a loving son, husband, father, grandfather,
brother, uncle, and friend, will forever remain in the hearts of his wife of thirty-
eight years, Cornelia Engleton of Jeanerette, LA; ten children, Jesse (JJ) Engleton Jr.
of Berwick, LA, Jessica (Reginald) Daniels of Morgan City,
LA, Elizabeth Morgel of Houma, LA, Jesse Damon Engleton, Latasha (Charles Pool) Alfred, Robert Parker, and Wayne Foster, all of Jeanerette, LA, Patricia Byers of Houston, TX,
Margaret Powell and Andrew Byers, both of Berwick, LA; Two brothers, Robert (Josie)
Engleton of Berwick, LA, and Roger (Glenda) Engleton of Killeen, TX; Mother-in-law, Mary(George) Pierce of Jeanerette, LA; ten brother-in-laws, Robert Kennedy of Las Vegas,
NV, Jack Baldwin Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Jerry Baldwin of Ghana,West Africa, Joseph Alfred, Raymond Burney, Matthew Baldwin, Sr., Robert Lewis, Lonnie Joseph, Donovan Lewis, and Cortez Lewis all of Jeanerette, LA, Barren Dean of Lafayette, LA, and Andre Derouen of St.Martinville, LA; four sister-in-laws, Rosa Gray of Houston, TX, Annie (Johnell Jr.) Lewis and Juanita (Anderson Jr.) Clay of New Iberia, LA, and Hilda Baldwin of Houston, TX; twenty-three grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; five Godchildren, Amanda Lemon, and Telpherlyn McNeal of New Iberia, LA, Regina Griffin of Berwick, LA, Latoya Gassery of Houma, LA and Jason Hines of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rose Engleton, Sr., four children, Christine Engleton, Mamie Byers, Brenda Dugas, and Charles Halls; six brothers, Richard Jones, Dewey Engleton, Hebert Engleton, James Engleton, Jr., Joseph Engleton, and Albert Engleton; three great- grandchildren, Zyri Alfred, Harmony Alfred, and Jaylin Engleton.
