Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM, St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, Cankton, LA, for Joseph D. Howard, age 73, who passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Opelousas General Hospital.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 27, 2017, from 10:00 AM until the commencement of the funeral service at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church.
Mr. Howard, affectionately known as "Mighty Joe," was born August 26, 1943, was a native and lifelong resident of St Landry Parish. He was a parishioner of Christ the King and St Charles Borromeo Catholic Churches.
He worked for ReintJes many years. His favorite jobs were working for his mentor and big brother, Ignatius Broussard of Bellevue, Louisiana. He mended fences, herded cows, and work the fields in his early years.
Survivors include one son, Marcus Moten of Sunset; two grand daughters and one grandson; one brother, Authur Howard (Dorothy) of Gibson, LA; six sisters, Theresa McCoy of Beaumont, Mary Sue Martin of Houston, Gloria Howard of Carencro, Betty Hall of Cankton, Catherine Howard of Carencro, Shirley Howard of Sunset, two Godchildren, David Dwayne Little, Kearra Marlborough; a host of nieces, nephews loved one and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delton Howard and the former Ada Chachere; two brothers; Spencer Howard and Fred Howard, four sisters; Ella Mae Savoie, Juanita Eaglin, Mary Ann Milton and Mildred Holts.
