A Celebration of Life for Joseph Howard, Sr., will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Triumph Baptist Church in Franklin, La.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. until the commencement of the celebration at Triumph Baptist Church in Franklin, La.
Joseph will be interred at New Providence Cemetery in Centerville, La.
Joseph Payton Howard was born on May 17, 1946, to Annie Howard and Andrew Payton in Bayou Sale, La on Maryland Plantation.
As a young boy, he attended school in St Mary Parish School System.
At the age of 14, he began to work in fields as a farmer and retired in 2013 after many years of hard work and dedication.
Joseph was a kind and genuine soul who enjoyed riding his bike, cutting grass, making homemade fried bread, crossword puzzles, playing cards for a quarter and fishing. His favorite saying was "A hard head will make a soft bottom." He was well known for his impeccable work ethic dedication to his family and his great determination.
On May 11, 2023, at 10:38 PM, God called his name, took his hand, and led him to the promise land.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his loving dedicated wife of fifty-two years, Dorothy Mae Richardson Howard of Franklin, La; five handsome sons, Joseph Howard of Pittsburg, PA, Bruce (Leslie) Howard of Monroe, La, Michael (Chelia) Howard of Lafayette, La, Anthony (Ashley) Howard of Patterson, La, and Bradley (Mary) Howard of Berwick, La; two beautiful daughters, Brittany Howard, and Angela Howard both of Franklin, La; one handsome brother, Taylor (Ethel) Howard of Centerville, La; his loving godchild, Antonio Howard of Jeanerette, La; thirty-five gorgeous grandchildren, four lovely great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Howard and Andrew Payton; four brothers, Leonard Griffin, Ivory Payton, Saul Howard, and Andrew Payton; four sisters, Emma Nico, Annie Jones, Howard and Lizzy Bowles Howard; his paternal grandparents, Taylor and Mary Payton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin and Agnes Rideaux Richardson.
