Kenneth "KC" Ray Collins, Sr, was born on October 15, 1956, to the union of the late Conrell Sr, and Eliza Patrick Collins in Lafayette, Louisiana. Kenneth always demanded attention and respect. He was better known as Sergeant most of his life.
Kenneth was always small frame, but you could not tell by the base in his voice, his ability to always have the last word, the first to take charge of a situation by delegating others, and a quick learner. He was a dedicated son, father, brother, church member, career Army Sergeant, and his brother's keeper.
Kenneth graduated from Franklin High School with the amazing Class of 1974. During his high school years, he was determined to be successful and landed his first job with Evangeline Phillips café in Baldwin, LA where he realized his skill and love for cooking. Upon graduation from high school, Kenneth decided to enlist in the United States Army. This proved to be a decision that fast tracked him to a lifelong career of 20 years as a Master Chef. Remember his ability to delegate to others, well this skill earned him the rank of Sergeant, a title that he practiced very well on and off the job. While servicing in the military, he earned several advanced certificates. During his station in Hawaii, he trained and ran in various marathons. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the Army in 1996. Upon his discharge from the Army, he worked as head Chef for a military and civilian hospital in Texas.
Kenneth ultimately returned to his hometown of Baldwin, Louisiana where he gladly became the go to person for any family member that needed his assistance. He eventually became an assistant caregiver and Chief Cook for his parents until their passing. He was an active and vocal member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served faithfully as a member of The United Methodist Men, and the Choir.
Kenneth was most proud of his role as a parent to his four children, Earl Melvin, Elron Melvin, Kenneth R. Collins, Jr, and Kennisha Collins. He and their mother, Ida, assured that despite Kenneth's Army orders to move across the nation and the country did not interfere with him having a close, loving and trusting relationship with his children. His children will always live by their dad's motto, "Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today."
Kenneth enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, listening to music, dancing, practicing his gift as a comedian, and splitting his loyalty as a football fan between the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys which is another story.
Kenneth leaves to cherish his memories, four children, Elron Melvin, Newburgh, New York, Earl Melvin, Katy, Texas, Kenneth R.
