Lorna Faye Bell-Butler departed her earthly home and answered the master's Call on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 3:10PM at Lafayette General Hospital. She fought a good fight, but she succumbed to her illness surrounded by her daughters. She now rests from earthly laborers.

Lorna Faye Bell-Butler was born on June 13, 1954, to the union of the late Willie Bell and Ernestine Bray in Franklin, Louisiana. Of the eight girls, Lorna Faye was the fifth daughter.

Being nurtured in a Christian home, Faye, as she was affectionately called, accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Reverend Octave Vincent at Triumph Baptist Church in Franklin, Louisiana. She was one of the lead vocalists in the Triumph Baptist Church Youth and Adult Choir under her mother's leadership.

Lorna Faye received her formal education in the St. Mary Parish School System. While in school, began to sing in different bands. Around 1968, she became a member of Stix and Fingers, which later adopted the name, "The Beautiful People." This ultimately led to her singing being heard by the world-renowned Joe Tex. Joe Tex was so impressed by her powerful voice as a teen, he offered her to go on tour with them. Her parents declined the offer because of her age.

Faye loved God and music. She continued to sing with family gospel groups throughout the years, including "The Gospelettes," and "The Singing Sons and Daughters" of Franklin, La. She also sang with Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church Choir, Magnolia Praise Team, Crystal Bell and the Soulful Praise, Charles McKinley and the Tri-Parish Ensemble, and Faye and Ray Thomas Gospel Duo.

Lorna Faye was employed as a blackjack dealer at Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton, La., for fourteen years. She was fashionable and loved getting dressed to go eat out.  She enjoyed making people laugh and playing softball around the community.

Faye was united in holy matrimony to the late Fred Butler in January of 2000 until his untimely death in 2020. Faye enjoyed spending time with her daughters, Kizzie and Shelley. When you saw them, you saw her.

Memories of Lorna Faye, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, will forever remain in the hearts of her two daughters, Kizzie Bell and Shelley Bell, both of New Iberia, La., her sisters, Caldonia Bell of Arlington, TX, Willie Mae Bell of Morgan City, LA, Elizabeth (Willis) Jenkins of Miami, Florida, Ida Bell Dennis of Franklin, La., Denise (Melvin) Prevot, Ara Lee Whitehead and Stacey Antoine all of Morgan City, La.; seven grandchildren, Semaj (Tamara) Washington of Washington, La, Ivian Bell of Baton Rouge, La, Ash Lee Alan Miller Jr., Dalyn Bell, Schyler Miller, Haylee Miller and Kaeden Morris all of New Iberia, La., two godchildren: Henry Bias III of Houston, Tx., and Tracey Mitchell of Franklin, La., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Faye was preceded in her death by her parents: Earnestine and Willie Bell, her husband, Fred Butler, and her brother, DeWitt Collins.

MK Dixon Funeral Home, 337-940-9253 , 211 Main Street, Baldwin, La 70514.
