A Celebration of Life Ceremony for Markell Coleman will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Moses Baptist Church, 20315 Louisiana 182, Jeanerette, LA. Rev. BK Stevens will officiate the service.
He will await the resurrection at the Sorrel Community Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 21, 2015, from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
Markell Karez Coleman was born March 19, 1979 in Lafayette, LA to the union of Margaret Keal Coleman and the late Alfred Coleman, Sr.
He attended Mary Hines Elementary School, Franklin Junior High, and Franklin Senior High where he was active in football, and graduated in 1998. He furthered his education by attending Delgado Community College (A.A.S. in Culinary Arts) in 2005; and the University of West Georgia (B.S. in Management and B.S. in Marketing) graduating in 2011. He was also a member of the American Marketing Association at West Georgia University; and the American Culinary Federation.
He accepted Christ at the age of 12 and was a member of St. Moses Baptist Church, Drill Team, Youth Choir and Male Chorus. His home away from home church was Elizabeth Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA.
He started his culinary career as an Apprentice and Sous Chef at the famed Bella Luna restaurant in New Orleans, LA. He was currently employed as Operational Manager of Piedmont Healthcare in Newnan, GA and was also a Chef at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Markell enjoyed shopping (as evidenced by his extensive sneaker collection) and enjoyed old school Cadillac cars, fishing and cooking for people. He was a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan that will be remembered for his loving, generous, humble, peaceful, sweet, and funny spirit.
He loved his wife, Tamara Whitehead Coleman, since first meeting her at the Union Six District Baptist Association Youth Congress in 1995. They were surrounded by close friends and family on December 9, 2009 when they were married in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
He leaves to cherish his memory and in God's care his loving wife of 5 years and faithful companion for over 20 years, Tamara Whitehead Coleman; his adored Shih Tzu, Tinkerbell "Bella"; mother, Margaret Coleman of Sorrel, LA; three sisters, Michelle Kirt of Verdonville, LA, Shawnequa (Willis) Curley of Lafayette, LA and Yolanda (Alvin) Polk of Jeanerette, LA; one brother, Alfred (Felicia) Coleman, Jr. of Leesville, LA; father in law and mother in law; Norwood Brown and Dorothy Brown of New Iberia, LA; sisters in law, Nedra (Craig) Francis of New Iberia, LA, and Tammy Whitehead of New Orleans, LA; brother in law, Reginald (Nikki) Whitehead of New Iberia, LA; his godchildren, A'Breonta Keal of Jeanerette, LA, Sydney Francis of New Iberia, LA and Ja'Mya Hurst of Jeanerette, LA and was looking forward to christening Eilan and Aubrey Hoskins; his best friends, Eldrige "JR" Hoskins, Jr., EnRico Mays, Wilson Jackson, Jr., John Allen Banks and Terrell "Bubba" August. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues and countless others will cherish him.
He now joins in glory with his father Alfred Coleman, Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Clarence Keal, Sr. and Louella Keal; and his paternal grandparents, Enny and Emma Dell Coleman.
