Mary Jackson Jenkins

A Graveside Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020, 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery, Baldwin, LA. Rev. David Jones will officiate the service.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2020, from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM at MK Dixon Funeral Home.

Mary Jenkins was born to Darmas and Leona Jackson in Lafayette Charity Hospital in Louisiana, on September 24, 1939. Mary accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized at St. Martin De Porres Church in 1979. She later joined St. Matthew Baptist Church in Glencoe, La.

Mary attended Herod High School in Abbeville, La. She began working at an early age at G.W. Hamilton Elementary School where she retired after 36 years of dedicated services.

She met Leroy Jenkins Sr. in the early 60s and the were married on July 23, 1963. From this union (5) beautiful children were born. Angel Jackson, Kevin Jenkins, Sandra Jenkins, Leroy Jenkins Jr., and Debra Valore.

Mary has been singing and cooking her entire life. She was never a stranger in the choir at any church she would visit. She was known for her awesome cooking. She never went to an event without a dish. She always had a Sunday dinner and any and everyone was welcome. She had a kind loving spirit and always greeted you with a hug and a kiss.

Mary will be dearly missed by her loved ones. She is survived by her five children, Kevin, Angel, Sandra, Leroy Jr. (Trena), and Debra (Ira). Siblings: Ruby (Geneva), Golden (Vera), Freeman, Dora, and a twin sister Marion. Sister in laws: Dolly, Agnes, & Mary. 11 grandchildren and 11 great grand-children, and a host of cousin, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leroy Jenkins Sr., her parents Darmas and Leona Jackson, and siblings: Rufus, Herman, and sister Loretta.
