A Celebration of Life for Mary Bell Teno-Wells will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. at St. John Baptist Church in Jeanerette, Louisiana(Big Four Corners Rd). Mask will be required.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. until the commencement of the celebration at St. John Baptist Church in Jeanerette, Louisiana(Big Four Corners Rd).
Mary will be interred at Sorrel Community Cemetery in Sorrel, LA.
Mary Bell Teno-Wells was born on January 29, 1951 to Ulysses and Pearl Colbert Teno in Lafayette, LA.
Mary "Mae" as she was affectionately called, was baptized at St. Moses Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. A. D. Teno, Jr. where she was a faithful member. After serving a long time there, she moved her membership to St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. David Jones where she served faithfully until her health failed. Even though her health kept her from church, she still participated virtually.
Mae was a graduate of Park Avenue High School Rattlers, class of 1969. After high school, she became an employee of St. Mary Parish School Board as the Secretary of Thomas Gibbs Elementary for over 30 years.
After retirement, she was employed at St. Mary Community Action Agency, Inc. as the bus monitor for Bambi Head Start Center for many years.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her former husband, Joseph Wells of Glencoe, LA; daughter, Tiffany (Carlos) Lewis of Jeanerette, LA; son, Tawaski (Hazel) Wells of New Iberia, LA; one daughter she reared as one of her own, Mary Manuel Alexander of New Iberia, LA; sister, Denise Teno of Jeanerette, LA; brothers, Ulysses Teno, Jr. of Houston, TX and Michael (Wanda) Teno of Jeanerette, LA; grandchildren, Kiara Solco whom she raised from birth, Kimyana Teno, Kwayona Teno, Tatelyn Wells all of Jeanerette, LA, Kandiss Teno of Biloxi, MS, A'miyalin Arceneaux of New Iberia, LA and Kimberly Charles who she adopted of Youngsville, LA; aunts, Gloria Washington and Amelia Colbert of New Orleans, LA, Louisa Williams, LuAda Colbert and Elnora Colbert of Jeanerette, LA; uncles, Leonard Colbert, Sr. and Roy (Alice) Colbert of Jeanerette, LA; great grandchildren, Kaiden Solco, Kassidy Solco, Rhylan Gage, Rhyleigh Gage, Kaysen Teno, Cartazz Teno, Carson Teno, Kalleigh Colbert, and Kannon Colbert; special god-children, Jason Dwyer, Jessica Carter, Jillian Dennis, Keriona Clavelle, and Tyrell Marks Jr., sisters in law, Deborah (Tilton) Conley, Janet Wells of Glencoe, LA; brothers in law, Kimaray (Daisha) Wells and Bertrand (Cheryl) Wells; special friend, Bertha Williams of New Iberia, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
