Mervine Guidry, Sr.

Franklin

A Celebration of Life for Mervine Guidry, Sr. will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Special Providence Baptist Church in Baldwin, Louisiana. Mask will be required.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. until the commencement of the celebration at Special Providence Baptist Church.
Mervine will be interred at Special Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Baldwin, Louisiana.
Mervine Guidry, Sr. was born September 20, 1934, to the union of Warren Guidry Sr. and Louise Maze Guidry in Abbeville, Louisiana. Raised in Abbeville, Mervine later relocated to Franklin, Louisiana, where he was a resident for 59 years. On Saturday, October 9th, 2021 at 4:37 pm, while in the comfort of his residence, surrounded by family and friends, Mervine transitioned to his eternal home.
Mervine accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Hilliard Buckner Sr. Throughout his life he maintained a close relationship with God.
Mervine was united in Holy Matrimony to Alma L. Guidry. To this union, 7 children were born.  After divorce, Mervine and his long-time companion Mary Pickney were united, and to this union, a daughter was born.
Mervine was a soldier in the United States Army for 3years. He was a hard-working, fun-loving, and caring man. He took great pride in providing for his family. After relocating to Franklin, Louisiana, he became involved in the construction industry and was known for his expertise in operating heavy machinery and equipment. He worked many years for several companies Throughout St. Mary Parish; Frees Construction, Tyler Brothers and Duck Construction Co.. Health issues would eventually lead to retirement. Mervine was also a great cook and prepared many meals for family gatherings and friends.
Mervine leaves to cherish his fond memories, companion, Mary Pickney; daughters, Mary Faye Guidry and Phyllis M. Guidry of Abbeville, La, Cythia G. Johnson of Franklin, La, Kirsten Guidry-Peters (Richard) of Baldwin, La, Antonia Verrett-Gunner (Levi) of Verduville, La, Heather Johnson of Cincinnati, Oh, adopted daughter/ granddaughter, Yasminn G. Guidry of Baldwin, La, granddaughter who he raised as a daughter, Cherokee Simon of Baldwin, LA; Sons, Troy A. Guidry of Houston, Tx, Mervine "Fox" Guidry, Jr. (Mechelle) of Youngsville, La, Cordell Guidry of Cade, La, Eddie Verrett of Jacksonville, Fl; Brother, Burke Guidry of Kentucky; 31 Grandchildren; 29 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; Brother-in-laws, Alton Levine Sr. and Lennis Levine of Dallas, TX, Rev. Lawrence Levine of Detroit, Mi., Lionel Wilson Sr. of Baldwin, La; Sister-in-laws, Edna Bellard of Sorrell, La, Debra Wilson of Baldwin, La, Mable Levine and Melba Levine of Dallas, Tx; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Mervine was preceded in death by parents, Warren Guidry Sr. and Louise Maze Guidry; daughter, Patricia Guidry; brother, Warren Guidry Jr.; stepson, Anthony (Push) Wilson; uncles Garfield Maze and Rev. Dr. Henry L. Maze; cousins, James (T-Man) Bellard Sr. and James (Jelly) Bellard Jr.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to MK Dixon Funeral Home, 337-940-9253, 211 Main Street, Baldwin, LA 70514.
