A Funeral Service for Naomi Vanburen Bolds will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018, 12:00 PM at Saint Temple Church of God in Christ, Pickett Lane, Franklin, LA (St. Joseph).
Visitation will be Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 9:00 AM until the commencement of the funeral service at Saint Temple Church of God in Christ, Pickett Lane, Franklin, LA (St. Joseph).
She will be interred at Saint Temple Church of God in Christ Cemetery in Franklin, LA (St. Joseph).
On May 22, 1925, in the ninth ward of New Orleans, Louisiana was born to the late sister Elizabeth and the late Reverend William Rochester VanBuren, a baby girl that they named Naomi Virvian VanBuren. She was one of 12 siblings who have all gone on to meet the Lord, except for one brother. Being the youngest sister of 11 other children she was often called by the nickname Betty because her little sister couldn't say, "baby". After growing up for a little while in New Orleans her family moved to Baldwin, Louisiana where she continued her education in Elementary and High School. After graduating from High School, she later moved to San Francisco, California. While in San Francisco, she met and married the father of her 2 children Gwenderlen Britton Jackson and Tony Britton, both of California. She later moved from San Francisco back to Baldwin, Louisiana and finding a job in New Orleans, she moved there. After living there for a period of time, she went back to the St. Mary Parish and got a job working at the Crab Factory. In 1958, she married her husband Junius Bolds. In 1959, she became the Morgan City District Choir Director. In 1960, she became the District
Sunday
School Superintendent. In 1961, she robed the district choir.
While attending state
Sunday
school convention she became class teacher and choir director from 1964 through 1970. She later retired from the district and state position and began seriously working in the local church. Remembering some words spoken by her mother, the late Sister Elizabeth VanBuren. She and her husband raised some money and purchased a building to worship God in. This is how Saint's Temple was born. With the help of her husband, the late Junius Bolds, the church began to flourish. They named the building Saint's Temple Church of God in Christ. She became steady working remaining serious about God's work.
Through age, as her health declined she appointed the late Elder Arnold Jenkins as Pastor of Saint's Temple. After his proceeding to meet the Lord, Saint's Temple fell back into her lap. She later appointed Sister Leatrice Jenkins and Sister Ruth Wright to carry on the work for the Lord.
Later, her children later came from California and took her back with them. She resided with her son Tony in Rowland Heights, California for a period of 3 months. She later went to reside with her daughter Gwenderlen in Bakersfield, California where she resided for 2 months until God decided it was time to take her home early in the morning Saturday, April 14, 2018 at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield, California.
She is survived by 1 brother: Rosco D. VanBuren of Tacoma, Washington, her children: Gwenderlen and her husband Reverend Charles Jackson of Bakersfield, California, Tony and Carolyn Britton of Rowland Heights, California, and her stepdaughter Norma Dee Harrell from Houston, Texas, and Grandchildren, Wilfred Gash Jr., Vernona Gash, Troy Gash, Donte Jackson, Desmond Jackson, Odyscey Jackson, Dennis Britton, Tony Micheal Britton, Justin Britton, Flo, Sherry, and a host of Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, and Great-Great Grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, along with a host of relatives and friends, and church family.
