A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma Lewis Pourciau will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Jeanerette, LA. Mask will be required.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. until the commencement of the mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.
Norma will be interred at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery.
Norma affectionately and dearly loved as the youngest of eight was born on August 18, 1931 to the union John Lewis, Sr. and Mary Allridge Lewis in Jeanerette, LA. Norma, a lifelong resident of Jeanerette, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 28, 2022.
Accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life, Norma was baptized in the Catholic faith and remained a faithful and active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church of Jeanerette, LA where she served in many areas of the church especially during Annual Church Fair.
In 1950, Norma received her high school diploma from Jeanerette Colored High. She continued her educational aspirations at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1955 and her Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration in 1967. Her teaching career was centered in the parish of Iberia where she touched and impacted many lives and impressionable minds for 20 years until she retired. Her teaching dedication continued as she made her presence known as a substitute teacher after her retirement.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents (John and Mary Lewis) and her seven siblings.
Norma leaves behind cherished remembrances of her two nieces: Beverly A. Galley and Clarinda J. Gates both of Houston, TX, one nephew, Keith Lewis of Jeanerette, LA, and a host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Norma, who was known for her eccentric and direct personality which exonerated when she utilized teachable moments to administer advice from a place of love and concern will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
