Visitation will be Saturday, June 22, 2019, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Greater New Hope Baptist Church.
Mr. LeGrier will be interred in Greater New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Richard LeGrier, Jr. was born on February 13, 1931, in Cordele, GA to the late Richard LeGrier, Sr. and Lucille Gaston LeGrier. He was one of six children. At the very young age of seven, his father died. As the younger of two surviving sons, Richard spent his early childhood in Pompano Beach, FL, and later was sent to Georgia to complete his education. He returned to Pompano Beach before enlisting in the U.S. Army for service in the Korean War.
While serving, his buddy Leroy Conner, connected Richard to a new pen pal, Jessie Fleming, who was destined to become his lifelong partner.
He and Jessie married on June 25, 1955, in Baldwin, LA, after Richard's honorable military discharge and relocation to New York City.
Following their Baldwin wedding, Richard returned to Manhattan with his new bride. They resided uptown in Harlem. From this loving union came four sons.
Richard LeGrier, Jr. worked in retail, until his career with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired after 32 years of service.
In 1986, Richard and Jessie relocated to Louisiana, along with their youngest son, to faithfully serve the needs of Jessie's parents, Frank and Frances Fleming.
Baldwin became Richard's beloved hometown for the remainder of his lifespan.
Richard LeGrier, Jr. was faithful in Christian fellowship and Scripture and until his death still able to recite verbatim all 59 verses of Acts 25 and Acts 26.
He was diligent in his stewardship and served as the only Treasurer at Greater New Hope Baptist Church since its formation.
"Mr. Richard" was well known in Baldwin and surrounding areas for his many attributes (God given gifts). He had a Godly wisdom and wit, delighting many friends with his stories and jokes.
Richard LeGrier, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Richard LeGrier, Sr.; his mother, Lucille Gaston LeGrier; and his brother, Willie LeGrier.
A man with strong family values, Richard leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Jessie Fleming LeGrier; four sons, Richard LeGrier, III (Liza), Reginald LeGrier Sr. (Angela), Aubrey LeGrier, and Andre LeGrier (Edilsa); four sisters, Mildred Jones, Vera Wilson, Lena Snell, and Nettie Ransaw (Ruben, Sr.); adopted sister, Mary Nell Jackson; seven grandchildren, Reginald Jr., Richard, Thulani, RossAndre, Zoë, Jordyn, and Cameron; two great-grandchildren; adopted daughters and goddaughters;
and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family, friends, and loved ones.
