World traveler Rita Lynn Boudreaux-Mitchell, traveled to us on December 7, 1953, and on September 17, 2023, she traveled back home. During her 69 years with us, she embarked on her greatest journey and left us plentiful memories.

On that December day, Rita came to visit Beaumont, Texas. She was pushed from the ocean of her mother's belly, to the land of the living, by the late Maggie with the help of her husband Joseph Boudreaux.

Rita was predeceased by her two sisters Cheryl Boudreaux and Doris Granger-Allen.

Instead of dipping her toes into warm waters to gain some relaxation. She had her head dipped to gain a crown of wisdom, protection, renewal, and everlasting life. At an early age, at West Tabernacle Baptist Church, by the late Rev. J.H. Scott.

By the age of 31, she had already seen some of what the world had to offer with her mom and JoEtta.  When JoEtta stopped traveling, she added her dear friend "Stew" to help add markers to her maps of destinations. From sea to shining sea, land to land they packed their bags and went to see more of the world that God created. They backpacked across Southern European countries, North America, and Asia.  She explored Alaska, Jamaica, Bahamas, Portugal, Brussels, Bordeaux, Barcelona, Rome, Paris, Gibraltar, Le Havre and recently Dubai, just to name a few.

Rita, loved to attend church on the first Sunday to receive her communion and pay her tithes. Her life alone was a journey and map of traveling in its own entity. She traveled through loss, wins, tons of emotions, and more.  Rita could recall stories about her life and tell the story so vividly just like it was yesterday.  She made you feel like you were there, but you wondered how she survived it!   She would make you laugh, but she could also make you mad.  None the less, she felt it was okay for her to tell you about yourself, but don't you dare try to tell her about HERSELF!  Although, it might take a while she would eventually get over it and expected you to do the same.

One of the greatest markers in her journey was her son. Everyone knew how she felt about Craig; if she had it, he had it too.  This included him traveling at an early age, and having the best of whatever money could buy. All her grandchildren meant the world to her.  If they were happy, Gram-me was happy!

In 1975, Rita started working at the Rogers Brother Optical Laboratory.  In 2000, she started working at Sam's Wholesale where she was the Optical Manager. She worked alongside Janie for many years and recently told her, "She better sell those glasses, she better show them, and make money!"

Rita was a fiercely loyal friend, cherished sister, and deeply beloved mother. She leaves to mourn; her son, Craig Mitchell, her daughter in love Whitney.  She leaves two sisters, JoEtta Boudreaux of Houston, Texas, and Amy Davis of Beaumont, Texas; four brothers, Joseph Boudreaux, Jr. (Judy), Glenny Boudreaux, Lull Boudreaux and Ivory Boudreaux all of Beaumont, Texas.   She also leaves four grandchildren; Nashara, Amon, Zyon and Kalon.  She leaves a special friend, Artis Harris of New Iberia, La.; honorary sisters Carolyn Lewis (Carl) and Carrie Curtis; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She leaves numerous friends who know Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

She has traveled her heart, and with God she accomplished some of her greatest desires. Rita would tell you to be happy for her, she's only returning home. She is going on the best trip of her life where her days will be filled with nothing but celebrations. She knows in her heart, that Jesus Promised her a home over there!

No picture could capture her moments, because a picture just simply wouldn't be enough to show the good time she's having. The best way for us to keep her in our heart is to keep going, traveling through this journey called life and when we need it, across the world.
