On Sunday, February 13, 2022, our beloved, Roy Phillips, stepped across the threshold that we call death. He took his step out of time and into eternity. He has not stepped out of the fellowship of life, but has stepped into one of the rooms of our Father's House.
Roy was the first of two children born to the union of the late Robert and Evangeline (Joseph) Phillips in Baldwin, Louisiana on November 26, 1938. Roy received his formal education Baldwin and Franklin, Louisiana. After graduating from Franklin Negro High School (Willow Street High) in 1956, he served in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he was employed as an electrician and air conditioning serviceman. Roy was well known in the area for helping those in need at a moment's notice. He generously gave of his time and his talent to help those in the community.
During his early years, Roy attended Godman United Methodist Church with his family. He later joined and was baptized at Special Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C.E. Baptiste. In 1990, he joined Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mack E. Crayton. As a young man, he married the late, Shirley Henry Phillips. On December 25, 1976, he married his current wife, Lamander Lee Phillips, who remained faithful to him until the end.
Roy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Lamander; two sons, Kenneth Phillps of Port Arthur, Texas and Brad (Michelle) Garret of Columbia, South Carolina; one sister, Lucy Mae (George) Lancelin of Baldwin, Louisiana; stepchildren, Rolanda Johnson, Arthur Edwards, Charles Lee Edwards, Steve Gibson, Carlene Clark, and Charlene Gibson; one uncle, Harold Logerman, Sr.; two godchildren, Dr. Pamelyn ( Ray Sr.) Francis of Jeannette, Pennsylvania and Dr. Linda Henry-McCarty; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, four brothers-in law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
