Roy LaThaniel, Sr., was the 14th child and the youngest child of Albert Colbert, Sr. and Clara August Colbert. He was born on January 31, 1953.
Roy completed his early childhood education at Thomas Gibbs Elementary School and earned his High School diploma from Franklin Senior High School in 1972.
After graduation, he held several construction jobs.
On May 4,1974, Roy married his High School Sweetheart, Alice Joyce Dwyer. To their union, four children were born: Terri Lynne, Roy Nathaniel, Tyrone, and Travis Paul.
Roy was easy to know and easy to like. He loved baseball which he played and enjoyed watching football, especially "The Washington Commanders", which was his favorite team. He was the "best Bud" to his kids, nephews, nieces, and other kids throughout the community.
Roy had a strong moral character. He had a way of telling you off in a kind way. He would tell the boys outright what to do and he only told them ONCE! When he had to address the girls, he told his wife, "tell that lil girl, "girls don't do that."
Roy leaves to cherish his precious memories: his wife, Alice Dwyer Colbert of Baldwin, LA; three sons, Roy Colbert, Jr. of New Iberia, LA, Tyrone Colbert of Carencro, LA, Travis Colbert of Baldwin, LA; one daughter, Terri L. Colbert of Carencro, LA; four sisters, Gloria Washington, Amelia Colbert of New Orleans, LA, LuAda Washington, Louisa Williams of Jeanerette, LA; one brother, Leonard Colbert, Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Burrell of Baldwin, LA, Earline Dwyer of Jeanerette, LA; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and former co-workers.
