Samuel 'Fiya' Alexander was born in New Iberia, La, the fourth child born to the union of the late Louis Alexander Sr. and Majorie Washington Alexander on Wednesday, May 14, 1952 in Lafayette, La.

Samuel graduated in the Class of 1970 from New Iberia Senior High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he honorably served two Enlisted terms. He also received the National Defense Service Medal.

He was known for his talent while playing baseball leading to his nickname Fiya. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the New Orleans Saints, riding his bike around town. He was known for helping and supporting others in need. He would sit on the front porch and when elementary students would pass, he would ask them questions about what they were learning. If they got the answer correct he would give them 50 cents, if they didn't he'd give them 25 cents. But most of all he loved spending time with family and friends. One of his greatest pleasures was watching his niece and nephews participate in various sporting events. Samuel was raised in and baptized at Anderson Street Church of Christ. He participated in Sunday and Wednesday bible classes and talked about the Lord's word with his fellow members.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Marjorie Alexander; his sister, Shirley Marie Alexander; infant brother, Darren Alexander.

He leaves to carry on his memory, Karen Alexander of Elizabeth City, NC; his four children, LaChaune Alexander of Warner Robins, GA, Danté Alexander of Elizabeth City, NC, Jermaine Jenkins of Broussard, La and To'Shika Sigure of New Iberia, La; one sister Debra Alexander George (Michael) of New Iberia, La; three brothers Irvin Alexander (Linda) of Loreauville, La, Louis Alexander Jr. (Dianne) of New Iberia, La and Ronald Alexander Sr. ( Dianne Simon) of New Iberia, La; ten grandchildren Donovan Alexander, Karmaineia Brown, Darrien George, Jayden Jenkins, Evandrick Abraham, Feronaty Sigure, Alizéa Alexander, London Alexander, Abigail Holly, Kingston Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, relatives, and loved ones.
