A Celebration of Life for Wanda Bowers, will be held Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, La.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the commencement of the celebration at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, La.
Wanda will be interred at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, La.
Wanda Faye Bowers was born to the union of James P. Bowers, Sr. and Delores V. Bowers on August 8, 1959, in Lafayette, La. She transitioned from this life at home on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Wanda began her Christian journey at an early age, having been baptized by the late Rev. James Otis at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Franklin, La. She was a devoted member and enjoyed teaching the Word of God to the youth during Sunday school.
Wanda was a member of the Class of 1977 at Franklin Senior High School. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree from ULL. Her joy of teaching later led her to complete her Alternative Teacher Certification. Wanda was loved very much by students, families, and co-workers alike. She faithfully served St. Mary Parish School District for 27 years; the majority of which were at LaGrange Elementary school. But, as with all things in this life, she realized the time had come to pass on the torch. So, in 2021, she decided to retire and enjoy some leisure time.
Wanda leaves to cherish her memory two sisters; Ollie (Andrew, Jr.) Stewart of Franklin, La, Beatrice Reddick of California; two brothers, James (Christina) Bowers, Jr. of Franklin, La, Kenneth (Dianne) Bowers of Baldwin, La.
While Wanda had no children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. And they loved her immensely. She was their "Auntie Wanda." She also leaves to cherish her memory, two nieces, April Stewart of Lafayette, La, J’Ashayla Bowers of Franklin, La; four nephews, Andrew (Samantha) Stewart, III of Lafayette, La, James Bowers, III of Austin, TX, Kingston Bowers of Franklin, La, Kelly (Krissandra) Bowers of San Diego, CA.
She is also survived by her godmother, Ruby Dabney of Franklin, La; two godchildren, Arbrenaye Brown, Kadeshia Bellard of Franklin, La; one devoted family member who was reared as a sibling, Janis Dabney of New Orleans, La; host of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Delores Bowers, Sr.; one sister, Beulah Bowers; one nephew, Jarrod Bowers; godfather, Kenneth Lynn Clark.
While Wanda will be deeply missed, let us take solace in knowing that she's now at peace, resting in the arms of God.
