William Payton, Sr.

A Celebration of Life for William Payton, Sr. will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, 1:00 PM at MK Dixon Funeral Home - Baldwin. Rev Arnold Ray Joseph will officiate.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 12:00 PM until the commencement of the service at MK Dixon Funeral Home - Baldwin

Mr. Payton will be interred in Sorrel Community Cemetery, Sorrel, LA.

William was called home to rest on July 10, 2024, in God's loving arms. He was born in Jeanerette, LA on January 28, 1947, to Rosevelt and Mary Payton, Sr. He was the second to oldest out of 10 siblings. William accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and was baptized at St. Peter United Methodist Church, Jeanerette LA. His favorite hobbies were cutting grass, fishing, talking on his CB radio, drinking that peppermint snap, smoking, and love working on his trucks. His favorite song was "Stand up in it" by Theodis Ealey. He used to work at Patterson Truckline and was an active member of the National Guard.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Merlene Brent- Payton of Sorrel, LA; four children: Nichole A. Payton (Jose') of Sorrel, LA, William M. Payton, Jr. (Demetre) of Baldwin, LA, Yolanda J. Payton of St. Martinville, LA, and Bryan W. Payton, Sr. of Sorrel, LA; sisters: Susan Polidore (CJ) of Four Corners, LA, Beverly Johnson (Raymond) of Jeanerette LA, Rose M. Payton of Beaumont, TX; brothers: Nathan Payton (Annette) of Houston, TX O'Neil Payton (Elaine) of Tallahassee, Florida, and Stephan Robertson (Marsha) of New Iberia, LA; 12 grandchildren: Oscar, III (Celeste) of New Iberia, LA, Andrew, Sr. (Zhane') of Sorrel, LA, Thomas, Jr. of Sorrel, LA, Paul Defils (Victoria) of Morgan City, LA, Khadijah or New Iberia, LA, Ta'Shelley (Tre) of Jeanerette, LA,  Damien of Sorrel, LA, Za'Myreiah of Sorrel, LA, Bry'Neisha of Sorrel, LA, Lexis of Jeanerette, LA, Jaden of Baldwin, LA, and So'Maya of Baldwin, LA; 12 great- grandchildren; Five godchildren: Darin Navy Sr., Jacqueline Payton- Williams, Carol Lewis, Gloria Hypolite, and Sharhonda Jospeh; host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.

He preceded in death by his parents: Roosevelt and Mary Payton Sr.; daughter: Ja'Ashala R. Payton; brother: Roosevelt Jr., sisters: Helen R. Willis and Ira M. Payton; grandsons: Bryan Jr., and Brodrick Payton; niece: Theresa Henry.
