Matthew “Joe Lewis” Robertson, Sr.

Matthew Robertson Sr., a resident of Bayou Vista, LA, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Hospice of

Acadiana Calcutta House in Lafayette, La. he was 85 years old.

Matthew aka "Joe Lewis" was born October 8, 1937, to the late Samuel Lumpkin and Sedonia Keal in Jeanerette, La where he lived most of his life. In his early adult years, he married the love of his life the late Maggie Steward Robertson who preceded him in death. To this union, six children were born Julia Freeman, Judy Robertson, Matthew Robertson Jr., LaShonda Robertson, Damien Robertson, and Kevin Robertson. Joe Lewis enjoyed being a DJ, dancing, and socializing with family and friends but most of all

he loved to dress.

In addition to his parents, he is now reunited with his beautiful wife Maggie, his son Kevin Robertson, who passed away just three days after his dad,  his siblings, Douglas Lumpkin, Leroy Lumpkin, Chester Keal, Fedrick Keal, Rose Mary Keal, Gracie Keal, and Betty Lumpkin. His brothers-in-law,

Curtis Steward, Sr., James Steward Jr., and one sister-in-law, Mary Strother.

He leaves to cherish his memories, three sons James Fine, of Franklin, La, Matthew Robertson Jr. of Jeanerette, La, Damien Robertson, of Las Vegas, NV; fourdaughters Julia Freeman of Bayou Vista La, Judy Robertson of Jeanerette, La, LaShonda Robertson of Lafayette, La., and Keisa Mitchell of Baldwin, La. three sisters Selena Martin, Helen Reed, and Trula M Lumpkin, two brothers Milton Keal, and Miller Keal, one brother-in-law Henry (Audrey) Steward, and one sister-in-law Cleotha Hines-Murdock. 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; three friends that he grew to love as his sons Jeff Alexander, Oliver Frances, and Ralph Rhea, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
